People are searching for community.
I’m sure you know the story of Chanukah. But, there’s a part that you probably
never thought about. I’m going to tell you that story and ask for your help.
Imagine a small child, David, living in Ancient Israel under Greek rule. He knows
that he has to duck out of sight when the Greek Soldiers come around. He is not allowed to go out to the market or to play outside. He is lonely and scared and misses the way things used to be.
Does that sound familiar to you?
Maya is an 8-year-old girl. She loves to learn about her Judaism and traditions.
She looks forward to meeting her Jewish friends every Monday to study, play, and learn. Then, in one fell swoop, Covid-19 stole her community and her weekly Jewish “time”.
Maya needs your help. And she is not the only one.
Leah never missed a Yizkor for her father since he passed. But this year, it looked like she’d miss out on that very special moment of remembering her father.
And of course, the special seniors in our community who are missing visits from their grandchildren and family.
These wonderful people are feeling lonely, depressed, and in search of a community, right now. They need your help.
You can help them. You can be a Maccabee. Just like the Maccabees of old who
won the war, lit the Menorah, and reunited the community.
We need your help to fight to reunite our community.
We all depend on real social interaction, community, and friendship. It gives us
meaning. It gives us strength. It makes us who we are!

• With your help, we will create a wonderfully festive Chanukah, Socially Distanced Giant Menorah Lighting, in Downtown Oceanside where so many will celebrate together safely, an in-your-Car Chanukah celebration and concert, and virtual Chanukah celebrations from the comfort of your home, bringing awareness and excitement of the holiday to our community.
• Your gift will send special Chanukah Packages to seniors and families, allowing seniors, kids, and parents to celebrate the holiday together as a community in a socially safe way.
• And your gift will have an impact far after Chanukah because your gift will send Shabbat Love packages and create a special “Judaism at Home” experience, where we will connect to each other by eating, playing, and singing the same songs on the same day.
